James Cameron will take the audience back to Pandora in two Avatar sequels, that will deliver the same visual and emotional quality as the first Avatar movie.
In the 2nd and 3rd movie, which will be stand-alone stories as well as a greater story, there will still be full power on the emotional and visual side, and they will continue to explore the themes and characters of Pandora, which touched the audience all around the world in the first movie. Cameron is looking forward to returning to Pandora, where his, and later our, imagination can run free and discover something new and amazing.
The deal between Cameron and 20th Century Fox has already been announced, and he will direct the sequels as his next 2 projects. The planned release dates for Avatar 2 is December 2014, and December 2015 for Avatar 3.

The movie grossed nearly $2.8 billion, making it the all-time biggest success in history. And perhaps more importantly, the movie's incredible 3D visuals, set a new standard for showing movies.
Avatar's success fueled the current desire to make 3D movies, and re-make classic movies like Star Wars for 3D. There are rumors about James Cameron directing the 3D version of Cleopatra, with Angelina Jolie in the title role.
James Cameron has already begun working on the scripts for both Avatar 2 & Avatar 3, but he has not yet decide whether to shoot them back-to-back or not. Cameron's first film with Fox, was Aliens (1985) And Titanic later on, which had the box office record before the first Avatar movie.

With its amount of $2.8 billion worldwide, most people would know that it is just a matter of time before Avatar sequels are coming, and according to Variety, James Cameron and Fox completely agree, and would rather start sooner than later on the project.
The Avatar sequels are planned for December 2014 and 2015, respectively, even though Cameron hasn't decided yet, if he'll shoot the films together or not. Fox would most likely prefer if he did. The production is expected to begin in 2012. James Cameron will, together with his team, spend the next months writing the stories. Cameron told Variety, that the 2nd and 3rd films will be independent stories, but they will also have a greater trilogy-story.
There are no word on the plot's yet, but Cameron previously noted, that Avatar 2 would take place in the oceans of Pandora, and Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are a given as actors again.

James Cameron said at the CinemaCon, that he is looking seriously at 48 or 60 frames per second for Avatar 2 & 3. The digital 3D movie revolution in form of the trio: James Cameron, George Lucas and Jeffrey Katzenberg, spoke about their latest efforts on this convention.
Cameron said that movies with higher frame rates than the HD standard (24 fps) gives an added sense of reality. Katzenberg explained how today's evolution in computing power, is affecting how the graphic artists work, and that the possibilities are almost endless. Lucas related. DreamWorks Animation CEO, Katzenberg, revealed that he is working on scalable multi core processing, a "quantum leap" in computer processing speed. For years, the animators have been waiting hours upon hours for the computers to render. With the new processes, the animators will be able to create their work in real time, and see the results in seconds. That will make a milestone in the storytelling of movies. An extraordinary and revolutionary help in the process, which will have a positive creative effect, and at the same time, rapidly speed up the creation of a movie.

Discussing the 2D/3D conversion process, Lucas mentioned that he has been working on conversion for about seven years. It's not a technical problem he claims, but it's actually a creative problem, getting talented people to work in 3D. Converting the Star Wars series to 3D, will actually cost more than the original movie's them selves! It is not cheap. It is not fast. But if you want to do it, you can.
Cameron said, that converting 2D movies to 3D movies, isn't practical because of postproduction schedules. He doesn't believe that it's possible to effectively make the conversion process, unless 6 to 8 months is available to do the conversion. The biggest and most expensive sci-fi movie of all time, Avatar, is back in the theaters for the 3rd time in one year. Avatar arrived at multiplexes and Imax theaters twice, where it went up against new releases at that time.

The reason for the 2 extra showings of the movie was not about profits, as Avatar already pulled in millions. Cameron argues that the original 161-minutes, did not keep people from wanting to see more. 30% percent of people said that it was too long, but the remaining 70% would not mind it being even longer. 9 minutes is an eternity in the editing room, but just 6% of the whole movie.
Fans of Cameron's earlier extended cuts, (Aliens 2 & Terminator 2), know that the added scenes include subplots and back story, and not just the usual here and there extra footage, like seen in many other extended releases in the industry. For example, in Aliens 2 extended cut, Ripley has a daughter who died, which gives a whole new meaning for her motherly relationship with the child Newt.

This news is beyond exciting for Love craft fans. It will be a well made and epically scaled horror film, which is a genre that we haven't seen in a really long time. Like the novel, the film will take place in the Antarctic, where some people encounter a race called "The Ancients". Cameron says that the thing about Love craft, is that he left a lot to the imagination. He never told what they looked like. He managed to create creeping horror without specifics. Cameron believes that's what would make del Toro the perfect man for the job. He has an eye for design that is so original and steeped in lore of horror design, but always unexpected. Cameron just want to see what del Toro comes up with, and he will then take care of production, so del Toro doesn't need to worry about that. And of cause help with 3D.

Having explored Pandora's ground-level flora and fauna in the first Avatar movie, James Cameron wants to go to the distant moon's and the deep watery depths of the oceans in the sequels.
